Troup ISD Closed March 16-20.

Dear Troup ISD Families and Community –

Troup ISD has been actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation throughout Spring Break.  We want the community to be aware of the steps the school district is taking.

Earlier today, myself and other senior administration met with the North East Texas Public Health and other Smith and Cherokee County school district representatives.  Following information from that meeting, Troup ISD will not resume classes next week.   There will be no school March 16th through the 20th, and all students and staff must remain at home.

The district will reevaluate the situation as we progress through this next week.  We will release additional information on Friday, March 20, 2020, by 5:00 pmand a decision will be made if a longer school closure is necessary.   That decision will be made following another scheduled meeting with North East Texas Public Health and Smith and Cherokee County school district representatives.

Additionally, all school events during this closure will be canceled and rescheduleas permitted – this includes all practices, rehearsals, games, or events.  Effective immediately, all district facilities will be closed and will not be available for use during the district-wide closure.  The only exception is that the district will provide a pick-up lunch for ALL students free of charge.  The lunches will be available for pick up at the Elementary Campus Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.  This is a pick-up lunch only, students will not be allowed in the facilities to eat.

I realize that this is a difficult time for many.  As a school district, our priority will always be the safety and security of our students, staff, and community as a whole.  This is an unprecedented situation for all school districts throughout the state, and these decisions are not taken lightly.  I appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.  Please continue to monitor our website and social media pages for updates.

Sincerely,

Tammy Jones
