School Board Members
Andy GriffinTISD Board Member
Andy Griffin is serving his first year as a Troup ISD board member representing Place 1.
Andy was born in Cameron, Texas and was raised in Temple, Florence, Johnson City and Burnett, TX. He graduated from Burnett High School and then served in the US Marine Corp.
Andy graduated from University of Corpus Christi with BS in Math with a minor in Physics in 1961. He later received a Master’s Degree from SFA in 1973 with a major in counseling. He has as been a head coach at Clear Creek, Texas City, White Oak, Pasadena, and Georgetown before retiring in 1995. Andy came out of retirement to again be a head coach at several other schools before coming to Troup. He served as AD and head coach for Troup High School from 2003-2005 leading the Troup Tigers to the state football championship in 2004
He has been married to Linda for 38 years. They have three children and three grandchildren. The Griffins are members of First United Methodist Church, Troup.
In 1995, Andy received the Texas High School Coaches’ Tom Landry Award and was inducted into the Southeast Texas Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 1998. Andy currently serves on the Board of Hill Top Country Club.
Andy has enjoyed his years of teaching and coaching young people. He thinks that experience in school business is essential to his current role as a school board member and feels that he is in some small way giving back to the community with his service to Troup ISD as a Board member.
Melissa YoungTISD School Board Secretary
Currently serving as TISD Board Secretary, Melissa Young is completing her sixth consecutive year as a TISD Board Trustee and holds Place 2 on the board. She has also served as an officer in the TISD PTO for six years.
After graduating from Troup High School, Melissa attended Tyler Junior College and North Texas University in Denton. She is a lifetime resident of Troup, where she is an active member of the community. She and her husband Tim have been married for 21 years and have two children and one grandchild. They are members of First United Methodist Church in Troup, where Melissa is a Sunday school teacher and Director of the Children’s Choir.
Kevin MartinTISD Board Member
Kevin Martin is serving his first term as a Troup ISD Board Trustee. He grew up in Nocona, Texas and graduated from Nocona High School in 1985. In 1989 he graduated from Texas A&M with a BS in Horticulture.
After completing his formal education, Kevin worked at the Dallas Garden Center for 3 years. He then moved to Troup in August of 1993 and went to work for Powell Plant Farms where he was employed for 13 years. Kevin is currently employed with BWI as the New Summerfield Sales Manager.
Kevin has been married to Tracye for 20 years. They have four children and are members of the First United Methodist Church in Troup. Kevin also serves on the Administrative Board of FUMC and as Scouting Coordinator for FUMC. He is a former Board Member of Troup Youth Association and a member of the Board of Troup Young Farmers
As a TISD board member, Kevin wishes to see the continued success of Troup Schools maintaining a strong foundation with the necessary checks and balances in place.
Joe McElroyTISD School Board President
Joe Paul McElroy is currently completing his fourteenth consecutive year as a TISD board trustee. He is the TISD Board President and holds Place 4 on the board. Joe has also served as board secretary in the past.
After graduating from Troup High School, Joe attended Tyler Junior College and The University of Texas at Austin. Joe is a lifetime resident of Troup where he is an active member in the community. He is currently a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and serves as Chairman of the Board for the Cameron – J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library. Joe was also awarded “Man of the Year” by the Troup Chamber of Commerce.
Joe and his wife Barbara have two children, who also graduated from Troup High School. They are the proud grandparents of two grandsons. Joe and Barbara attend church at First United Methodist Church of Troup, where Joe is a member of the Administrative Board and serves as Chairman of the Permanent Endowment Fund Committee.
Homer JonesTISD Board Member
Homer Jones is serving in his thirty second consecutive year as a TISD Board Trustee. He holds Place 5 on the board. In the past, Homer has also served as President and Vice-President of the School Board.
After graduating from Troup High School, Homer attended Prairie View A&M University. Homer and his wife, Ruby, have been married for thirty years. They are the proud parents of two children and seven grandchildren. Homer is currently a member of Grace Temple Church. He was recognized as Citizen of the Year by the Troup Chamber of Commerce in 2004.
Johnny JohnsonTISD Board Member
Johnny Johnson is serving his fourth year as a TISD Board Trustee. He currently holds Place 6 on the board.
After graduating from Troup High School, Johnny attended Tyler Junior College and Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Ag Business. He is a lifetime resident of Troup and is active in the community. He has been married to Melanie for nineteen years. They are the proud parents of two children, who are presently attending Troup High School. Johnny and his family attend church at the First United Methodist Church of Troup where Johnny serves as Treasurer.
Bill LacyTISD School Board Vice President
Bill Lacy is now serving in his fifth consecutive year as a TISD Board Trustee. He holds Place 7 on the board and currently holds the office of vice president.
After graduating from Troup High School, Bill attended Tyler Junior College, Texas A&M, and Sam Houston State University. Bill is a lifetime resident of Troup, where he is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Troup PTO, the Tyler Citizens Police Academy, and Junior Achievement. Bill currently serves as the branch manager for the Troup Banking Center, a subsidiary of Kilgore National Bank.
Bill and his wife Aida have been married for fourteen years. They are the proud parents of two children, who presently attend Troup Elementary and Troup Middle School. Bill and his family are members of First Baptist Church of Mixon where Bill serves as a Deacon. He also teaches a Sunday school class and is a member of the Building Committee.
